Building Blocks For Ministry
9. Miracle
The Miracle Module is a true story that portrays the hand of God at work. It portrays and event that is beyond coincidence and beyond the power of human effort. The purpose of the miracle module is to invoke and portray God’s stamp of approval on the truth of the speaker’s message.
Here is an example:
Lord Save That Man
One day over forty years ago a young pilot in the Strategic Air Command, Tom Smoak, was flying over Little Rock, Arkansas. His B-47 bomber carried a hundred thousand pounds of fuel. Suddenly the plane exploded in mid-air. The blast killed the three other crewmembers, but blew Tom free 15,000 feet up.
Tom’s face and hands were soaked with jet fuel and on fire so he couldn’t open his parachute. It came open by itself but it was also on fire. A fourth of it burned on the way down.
A Christian lady, in the residential area below, saw him plummeting toward her house with his parachute flopping uselessly behind. She prayed, “Lord, save that man!” Tom’s parachute caught on the tall trees beside her driveway. This broke his fall and left him with his feet dangling just a couple feet from the pavement. He was frightfully burned, but alive.
Tom spent months in the hospital. His face and hands were permanently scarred, but he was grateful to be alive. From then on he was aware of God’s purpose in his life. Later Tom became a missionary and spent 20 years as a jungle pilot in Colombia.
